We welcome parent volunteers throughout the year! Volunteering at LMI is a fun way to show students that parents and teachers work together. There are a variety of different opportunities that parents can choose from. Parents choose how they would most like to help out.
The parent volunteer program is a very important part of our school. It allows you the opportunity to share your child’s experiences at school, and allows us to provide the best programming. Each family is encouraged to choose one way in which they can volunteer.
Direct Involvement in Class:
If you choose to volunteer in the classroom, you will be given a simple lesson and all materials necessary to work with an individual child or a small group of children. You will work on the same activity during the entire work period (either in the morning or in the afternoon). Parent volunteers will be allowed to work with their own child, (as your child will typically like to “show off” his/her latest accomplishments), but it is important that parent volunteers work with other children in the class as well. There is a mandatory meeting for all new parent volunteers early in the school year.
Families are also encouraged to share their special interests with our students using slides, collections, heritage/culture, language, musical instruments, or experience and knowledge. Teach us about your vocation or avocation. Lunchroom reading is also an option!
Providing healthy snacks and organic milk (from Smyth’s Trinity Farm) during the school year.
Recommended snack lists will be provided to you.
Committees (Event/Auction/Long Meddowe Days)
Available committees help organize special events (social events, fundraising events, etc.)
Working on projects at home to assist teachers (like making materials or sewing parts together for a project), handyman duties (such as hanging shelves, light painting) and more!
Parents will be given the opportunity to accompany us on these excursions and will receive information about each trip as it approaches. If a parent volunteers to accompany a field trip, LMI will ask the parent to complete a background/CORI check per EEC regulations. LMI is prohibited from having parents accompany students on field trips if their CORI does not meet EEC, Massachusetts and Federal guidelines.
Service to the School Environment:
Laminating, copying, etc. always need to be done.
Board of Directors:
The LMI Board of Directors is made up of parent volunteers. These dedicated parents meet monthly to set policies for the school and to assist with legalities, fundraising, special events, oversee finances, and lots more. The Board of Directors meets monthly at the school. Parents are nominated for the Board based on past school involvement.
