Longmeadow Montessori Internationale’s motto, “Be gentle, Be kind, and Be safe” exemplifies the core values of our school and our mission. The motto dictates the way that we teach, learn, and live.
In preparing the child for independent learning, we begin with the most fundamental of Dr. Montessori’s lessons, “Grace and Courtesy”. To teach the child to be gracious and courteous, we treat them each as unique individuals and with the same respect that we expect from them. We teach the children to serve and care for the Earth and all of its inhabitants.
By teaching community service, we show the children the importance of charity, empathy, compassion, and above all, respect for others. These are tools that the child will take with him or her throughout life. One of our peacemakers of the month, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., said “Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve." At LMI, the children will hear these words and will truly know their meaning because they have served, and have already made our world a better place.
