2016-2017 Board of Directors:
Chris Orszulak, President, is the father of 4 children, two LMI alums, one currently in Pre-K and another future student. Since graduating from Amherst College with a B.A. in Economics in 2001, Chris has spent his entire career in the financial service industry at investment banking firm Keefe, Bruyette and Woods. He is a Managing Director in the equity and fixed income institutional sales business. Chris and his family reside in Longmeadow and enjoy riding their bikes to school every day!
John L. Pantera, Treasurer, is a father of 3, with an LMI alum and another child currently enrolled (with yet another future student presently coming of age). Pantera is an entrepreneur, small business consultant, published author, college professor and President of a non-profit organization. He graduated from Western New England University with a Bachelors Degree in Finance & Economics, and then went on to earn a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts – Amherst. John and his family have lived in East Longmeadow for 8 years.
Shauna Burdick, Secretary, was born and raised in Western Massachusetts. A graduate of Syracuse University, she earned a B.A. in Public Policy and a B.S. in Finance. She furthered her education, earning an M.S. in Business with a concentration in Technology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). Shauna has worked for the MassMutual Financial Group for 10 years, focusing on Deferred Compensation Plan services. Along with her husband, she currently resides in Somers, CT, and enjoys spreading the word regarding the value of a Montessori education at LMI to those outside of the Longmeadow community. Her 2 children both attend Longmeadow Montessori and Shauna is very involved with and thankful for the LMI community.
Katie Lynk Wartman, Ph.D., is an independent consultant and research professional who specializes in higher education assessment and administration projects. Her research has been published in several books and peer-reviewed academic journals. She has been a college administrator and has classroom teaching experience at the middle school, high school, and graduate school levels. She holds an AB from Bowdoin College with teaching certification, an EdM in Higher Education from Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a PhD in Higher Education from Boston College. She and her husband Dave have three children; one is an alum and one attends M1 Red.
Kate Dion, Esq., is an attorney at Robinson Cole, LLP, an Am Law 200 firm with offices throughout the Northeast, California and Florida. She practices in the areas of civil litigation, government investigations, internal corporate investigations and appellate law. Kate has represented colleges, universities, and independent schools located in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Great Britain. She has a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a J.D. from Western New England University School of Law. Prior to joining Robinson Cole, she clerked for the Honorable Robert E. Beach of the Connecticut Appellate Court. Kate serves on several other Boards of Directors and volunteers with various community groups. Kate and her husband Justin are thrilled to be able to give the gift of a Montessori education to their two daughters, Sophia and Charlotte, who both currently attend M1 Red.
Gabrielle Huffstutler, is a consultant specializing in Applied Transformation. Throughout her career, she has worked with individuals and teams inside of organizations to ensure they are fulfilling their purpose and performing at breakthrough levels. Gabrielle and her husband Gabe moved to Longmeadow from Denver, CO in 2013 with their two children, Noah and Sylvie, who both currently attend LMI.
Susanne B. Chuku, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Economics and the Director of the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning at Westfield State University. Her research interests are human capital and economic growth. She teaches courses in econometrics, macroeconomic theory, labor economics, economic growth and development, and money and banking. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Management and Economics from the University in Augsburg, Germany, and an MA and PhD in Economics from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. She holds the Financial Oversight Position at LMI. She and her husband Victor have two children: one attends M3, the other one will attend LMI starting September 2017.
Longmeadow Montessori Internationale’s Board of Directors is made up of parents whose children attend LMI, have worked on various projects for the school, and then joined the Board of Directors.
These dedicated parents help set policies for the school and help with finances, legalities, fundraising, and special events.
The Board provides leadership in support of LMI’s mission. Board Committees include: Executive Committee, Community Development Committee, Committee on Directors, and Finance/Long-Range Planning Committee. The Board also makes up Task Force Groups for: Tuition, 3-4 Year Planning, Auditing, Marketing, Annual Fund & Auction, Building & Facilities, and Health.
LMI’s Board of Directors meets monthly and parents are welcome to attend the first segment of each meeting. They would welcome any of your thoughts throughout the school year.
